The Madison School System: How It Works
Elementary Schools feed the Middle Schools which feed the High Schools
The Madison School System includes 40 traditional schools, four high schools, eight middle schools, and umpteen (28) elementary schools, plus 14 additional program sites such as charter schools, alternative programs, early childhood centers, and specialty education campuses. The system is split into two sections: West Madison with Madison West and Memorial high schools, and East Madison with Madison East and LaFollette high schools.
The Madison school district also operates several magnet middle schools, such as Spring Harbor, Wright, and Badger Rock. These schools draw students from across the whole of Madison and are not part of the standard elementary → middle → high school feeder pathways.
