A lot of folks believe that Rosa Rd (S Rosa Rd and N Rosa Rd) on Madison’s Near West side is a busy, busy through-street like Whitney Way, Midvale Blve or even Segoe Rd. Actually, of the seven major through-streets on Madison’s  Near West side, Rosa Rd is the least busy. Of course during the morning (6:00 to 9:00 AM) and evening (4:00 to 7:00 PM) commuting times, Rosa Rd does see a bump in traffic, but nothing like the other six streets.

Taking a look at the cars per minute as measured by a 2011 DOT traffic study, we can see that of the four major North-South through-streets (Rosa Rd, Whitney Way, Segoe Rd and Midvale Blvd) Rosa Rd is by far the least busy, and of the three major East-West through-streets (Mineral Point, Regent St and Old Middleton Rd) only Regent St, another residential street, is close to Rosa Rd, yet Rosa Rd is still the winner with the least amount of traffic.
